The problem with the M88 trigger assy, is it's aparently not that easy to remove and replace. I did fire one other M88 that was some worse for wear and neglect that had a poor trigger pull that reminded me of some Luger pistols. Mine is a pre-64 and has a decent trigger pull. The negative part of the M88, to some folks, is the trigger pull. The correct magazine in very good condition is worth upwards of $150. Especially the barrel.Īn important part is making certain you use the correct magazine and not one of those Mickey Mouse aftermarket tin cans. The M88 reminds me so much of the pre-64 M70 Featherweight. The front of the bolt locks up in the receiver by means of a rotory locking lug that's cammed with the bolt sliding forward. It is actually a bolt action that's cycled with a lower lever. Winchester Model 88 is a unique lever action rifle that's so much different than the usuall lever action Winchester it broke the mold.
